A MESSAGE FROM NATHAN EVANS, MANAGING PARTNER OF SMITH & WOLLENSKY

News & Events 18 Mar 2020

On the 17th March 2020, I had to make the toughest decision of my thirty-year career in the restaurant business and at 11pm on that date, Smith & Wollensky London closed until further notice.

The Government’s advice has clearly led us to the conclusion that this is the right thing to do, to stem the flow of the virus and protect the most vulnerable in our society.

Our thoughts are with our wonderful team, who find themselves without work for an indefinite period of time. We are offering them as much advice and support as we are able.

While the Chancellor’s package of measures, were gratefully received yesterday, the fiscal support has yet to find its way into the system.

The insurance industry has also got some tough questions to answer, it is clear that they have not behaved responsibly throughout this crisis and many of us are wondering why we paid such heavy premiums in the first instance.

Rest assured we will be using any means available to us to look after our employees and our suppliers and I hope that they will be back on board as soon as we reopen.

Thank you to our loyal customers who have sent many messages of support at this difficult time. We very much hope to be back, stronger than ever delivering London’s best steak very soon.

Our email enquiries@smithandwollensky.co.uk will continue to be monitored.

Wishing each and every one of you love and hope.

Nathan J Evans, Managing Partner
