Guests will be guided through five delectable Joseph Phelps wines by connoisseur Robert Baxter and will be accompanied by a three-course menu, with canapes on arrival. Joseph Phelps, described as one of the greats in the wine world, founded the family-owned Joseph Phelps vineyards in Napa Valley, and later the West Sonoma Coast. His Californian wines today enjoy a world-wide reputation. Overseen from grape to bottle, his iconic wines are of exceptional depth and character, renowned for their extraordinary quality. Robert Baxter, Export Director of Joseph Phelps, will be sharing his years of knowledge throughout the evening, allowing guests to fully appreciate the history and flavours of the wines. The wines selected for the evening include; 2015 Freestone Vineyards Chardonnay, 2014 Freestone Vineyards Pinot Noir, 2014 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, 2014 Insignia and a 2004 Insignia.
We are matching these excellent wines with a bespoke menu. Especially created for the evening by Executive Head Chef Tom Cook, the dishes will perfectly complement the chosen Joseph Phelps wines. The selection of canapés will include; beef tartare served with chipotle mayonnaise, Devon crab & grain mustard croquette and braised oxtail served with a beef consommé shot. The starter will consist of succulent seared scallop, braised pork belly with apple puree followed by a mouth-watering 340g of USDA prime rib, Hash, creamed spinach and mushrooms for the main. A cheese plate will finish the meal because, of course, no wine evening is complete without cheese.
Bursting with flavour and entertainment, combined with Smith & Wollensky’s renowned American hospitality, it is a night set to remember, an experience enjoyable from your first sip to your last bite.
